Travel To Haunted New Orleans

Not much, it seems, separates the living from the dead in New Orleans. Because the town is below sea level, tombs sit above ground in the 42 cemeteries within city limits. Ghosts from the War of 1812 still hang around the French Quarter. And visitors to the grave of a prominent 1800s voodoo queen continue to leave offerings and ask for help.

At Ghost City Tours they get a lot of questions about the cities haunted ghost tours run in. New Orleans is no exception. There is a lot of interest in New Orleans and its haunted locations and ghost stories, especially the ghosts and hauntings of the French Quarter.  While there is a common paranormal belief that after a certain period of time, ghosts simply cross over into the Great Beyond, there is something about the French Quarter, about New Orleans in general, that seems to contain the spectral activity and contain them.

The LaLauire Mansion

When we started thinking about what we would consider the most haunted places in New Orleans to be, there was one house that simply could not be left off of the list. Perhaps the most well known haunted location in the French Quarter of New Orleans is the LaLaurie Mansion, which has quite the tragic history. Today, it is a popular stop for almost every ghost tour company in New Orleans. (This is no exaggeration–at any point in the evening, you’re bound to find groups lining the sidewalks with their cameras pointed at the mansion).  On our Ghosts of New Orleans Tour, it is almost always one of the favorite stops for our guests. And for good reason, because the story behind the ghosts and hauntings of the LaLaurie Mansion seems to strike a nerve with everyone who hears it.

Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop

Sitting on Bourbon Street, away from most of the hustle and bustle of this infamous party street, is Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop. With its dark interior and the fact it is one of the oldest buildings in the French Quarter, it is no wonder that Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop has so many ghost stories associated with it.

It has long been suspected that one of the ghosts that haunts Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop is Jean Lafitte himself. Lafitte was a famous pirate and privateer in New Orleans, and even in Galveston, Texas. While he is most well known for his role in helping to save the city of New Orleans during the Battle of New Orleans in 1815, Lafitte’s reputation within the city was much like that of Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of the Caribbean. Women swooned over him; men hated him or adored him, depending on whom one asked.  But the truth of the matter is: there is no historical information to support the claim that Lafitte used this now haunted bar as his base, although many people suspect that Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop was in fact Lafitte’s “underground” smuggling operation.

The Hotel Villa Convento

Toward the downriver side of New Orleans’ French Quarter sits one of our more personal Hotels, the Hotel Villa Convento. For many years, even before the building became the Hotel, there have been many ghost stories and reported hauntings coming from what is now the Hotel Villa Convento. We included it in our list of the most haunted places in New Orleans because of the volume of ghost stories that have come out of the Hotel Villa Convento and the personal experiences of a friend of Ghost City Tours, Author James Caskey.

The Hotel Villa Convento has an interesting history. It was built in the early 1800s and has been used as a Hotel, a personal residence, apartments, and reported was one of New Orleans’ brothels. It is rumored to be the house mentioned in the song, ‘House of the Rising Sun’.

The most well-known ghost at the Hotel Villa Convento is thought to be the ghost of the former Madame of the brothel. Many guests have reported seeing her in their rooms, checking in on them to make sure that everything is going as it should. You can even read their reviews on TripAdvisor to read the accounts of guests who have stayed at the Hotel Villa Convento and had a ghostly experience of their own–although, if we’re being honest, it’s generally the men staying at the hotel who have paranormal experiences.

San Francisco California Ghost Tours

San Francisco Ghost Hunt Walking Tour

Walk to some of San Francisco's most notorious haunted places. Hear thrilling stories based on documented research. Discover weird and wonderful San Francisco history. Feel tingles go up your spine. The San Francisco Ghost Hunt Walking Tour is a historical walking tour of the Pacific Heights neighborhood, one of the few neighborhoods to survive The Great Earthquake and Fire of 1906.

You'll walk a mile on tree-lined streets in a safe residential area with fine Victorian architecture. You'll learn about real historic names of San Francisco — how they lived, how they died, and the reports of their hauntings ever since. We don't make it up. We just report it. You'll enjoy 90 minutes to 2 hours of guaranteed unearthly fun!

Will I See A Ghost
Strange things have happened on the San Francisco Ghost Hunt Walking Tour: orbs have appeared in photographs, coldspots have been felt indoors, acorns have been known to pelt people on the back (but only the really mean people). Keep an eye out, your senses open, and your camera ready (an EMF app couldn't hurt either) and you might have your own strange experience, too. Overall, the spirits we visit are safe and they won't follow you home. Otherwise, that would have a bad effect on our sales.

The San Francisco Ghost Hunt Walking Tour meets on the corner of Octavia and Bush Streets, in front of 1801 Bush Street. .

San Francisco is a beautiful city with mild temperatures year around, but our weather is much more like the wet Pacific Northwest than sunny Southern California. When you leave for your day of SF adventuring, wear layers you can take off and put on, not shorts. The weather will feel lovely and warm from Noon to 4pm. Then the fog rolls in and even the hardiest of snowbirds can't handle the chilly, damp, bay air that bites to the bone. Reservations are required.

Haunted Haight Ghost Walk

Your tour guide has had a passion for the paranormal his whole life! He is the founder of the San Francisco Ghost Society, a paranormal group that investigates claims of the supernatural in San Francisco. He has been featured in several newspaper pieces and recently served on a discussion panel about ghosts and urban legends at the World Horror Convention 2006 in San Francisco. He has lectured on ghosts and the paranormal at serveral events. He also co hosts a webcast called Supernatural San Francisco. The tour is around 2 hours.

The ghost stories you hear on the tour are well known legends of ghosts in the area as well as researched phenomena. Your tour guide worked closely with resouces from the San Francisco Public Library’s History Center, City Hall and the Police Department to create the tour. Residents also came forward with stories of their places being haunted and your guide has investigated the history behind the many stops on the tour.

Culinary Travel: Ghostly Shepherd's Pie

Treat your little ghosts and goblins to a tummy-warming stew that looks them right in the eye! In early cook books, the dish was a means of using leftover roasted meat of any kind, and the pie dish was lined with mashed potato as well as having a mashed potato crust on top. The term "shepherd's pie" did not appear until 1877, and since then it is sometimes used synonymously with "cottage pie", regardless of whether the principal ingredient was beef or mutton. Outside the United States, the term "shepherd's pie" is used when the meat is lamb.

Ingredients

1 pound lean (at least 80%) ground beef

1 medium onion, coarsely chopped (1/2 cup)

1 bag (12 oz) frozen mixed vegetables

1 can (14.5 oz) Muir Glen™ organic diced tomatoes with Italian herbs, undrained

1 jar (12 oz) beef gravy

2 2/3 cups water

1/4 cup butter or margarine

1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

2/3 cup milk

2 cups Betty Crocker™ Potato Buds™ mashed potatoes (dry)

Directions

Heat oven to 375° Fahrenheit In 12-inch skillet, cook beef and onion over medium heat 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thoroughly cooked; drain. Set 12 peas (from frozen vegetables) aside for garnish. Add remaining frozen vegetables, tomatoes and gravy to beef mixture. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat to medium-low. Cover and cook 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until vegetables are crisp-tender.

Meanwhile, in 2-quart saucepan, heat water, butter and garlic powder to boiling. Remove from heat; add milk. Stir in dry potatoes; blend well.

Spoon beef mixture into ungreased 8-inch square (2-quart) or oval (2 1/2-quart) glass baking dish. With large spoon, make 6 mounds of potato mixture on top of beef mixture to look like ghosts. Place 2 reserved peas on each mound to look like eyes. Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until potatoes are set and mixture is hot.

Spooky Atlanta Georgia Ghost Tours

This time of year, there is always a heightened interest in the paranormal. If you aren’t quite up for a gruesome haunted houses, try listening to local ghost stories on one of these Tours in Atlanta. The following are historical in nature, without gory zombies jumping out at you, but enough macabre to make the hair on the back of your neck stand on end. Well, we did throw in one zombie tour, but there aren’t any zombies that jump out at you, it’s more a tour of zombie related TV and movie sites. Know of other tours in Atlanta that have great ghost stories? Tell us about it in the comments section.

Lawrenceville Ghost Tour

The Lawrenceville Ghost Tour is a haunted history walk through Downtown Lawrenceville. The tour goes to the old city jail and points of interest along the square. Tours are led by professional storytellers, hired by  Aurora Theatre and they are quite good. Each one has their own personality, a barefoot undertaker, Greek fortune teller, Madame Macabre, which means every tour offers something a bit different. There is also a haunted cemetery tour, at one of the oldest cemeteries in the Southeast, a place where investigators say there is quite a bit of paranormal activity.  The tour is approximately an hour and a half long. Afterwards, visit McCray’s Pub for a Howling Curtis cocktail in honor of the ghost of the town drunk.

Roswell Ghost Tour

Although I have never been on this tour, it came highly recommended by Field Trips with Sue readers. The tour is given by paranormal investigators and showcases paranormal phenomena that is routinely experienced by residents, business owners and even tour attendees. This is not costumed actors telling ghost stories. One of the highlights of the tour is a visit to Founders Cemetery, the burial site of the founder of Roswell, Roswell King. Here, bodies are buried beneath modern streets and houses. Grand Greek revival mansions and humble mill worker’s apartments are some of the haunted sites you’ll see on this mile of easy walking. We are active paranormal investigators who promise to thrill, educate and enlighten with this experience. It’s recommended to bring a flashlight and if you have it, ghost hunting equipment. Each tour is approximately two and a half hours long and depart from the bandstand in Roswell Square.

Decatur Ghost Tour

Your  two hour tour begins in the heart of Downtown Decatur’s Historic Town Square, a diverse enclave of quaint shops and restaurants that share common space with the ghosts of Decatur’s exciting past.  The tour stops at one of the oldest two story homes in Decatur where it’s been said spirits haunt the walled up fireplaces and move freely about the grounds. Then travel down small streets untouched by time to the old train depot where late at night… the cries of the wounded soldiers might be heard, or the ghost of the station master might stare back from across the tracks. You will never forget the twilight visit to Old Decatur Cemetery… some of the city’s most notable citizens are interred here. Be sure to bring your camera and don’t be surprised if you capture orbs and apparitions. Decatur’s dead are pretty restless. Every stop has claims of paranormal activity.

Germany Has Unveiled a Hydrogen-powered Passenger Train

The world's first CO2-emission-free train powered through hydrogen was unveiled this week in Germany. The Coradia iLint, created by French company Alstom, was presented at the Berlin InnoTrans trade show on Tuesday. The train's energy comes from combining hydrogen stored in tanks on the train with oxygen in the air. The energy is then stored in lithium-ion batteries. The train's only emissions are steam and condensed water. The train also has lower noise levels than diesel trains, emitting only the sound of its wheels on the track and any sounds from air resistance at even its highest speed of about 87 miles per hour. The train has the ability to travel up to 497 miles and carry up to 300 passengers; it's the worldâ(TM)s first hydrogen passenger train that can regularly operate long journeys.

Off The Beaten Path: Germany

Germany is an open book to the tourists yet they seem to hold on to the obvious forgetting to read between the lines. Everywhere you go, in every city and particularly the smaller towns one is surrounded by this magical landscape ornamented through ages of history by the hands of its people. The harmony of the natures grace meets the imagination of the people on the verge of a masterpiece. Yet, there is more to it. This beautiful country goes beyond ones imagination only to unravel its mysteries to our naked eye, standing right in front of yet unseen.

Rugen Cliffs

Far, in the northeast of Germany there is this wide plateau of chalk cliffs surrounding the shores of Baltic Sea. Rugen of Pomerania, the biggest island by land in this country is a piece of heaven on Earth, beautifully captured in the paintings of the famous German artist Caspar David Friedrich from another century. The beaches are often visited by kite surfers and windsurfers cherishing its geographical position and natural wilderness. During the summer season there are various resorts open for guests who wish to indulge in this peaceful piece of land, off the beaten path.

Lindau

In Bavaria, the second most populous state, the island of Lindau connected to earth through a petite natural bridge road is a destination worth travelling when in Germany. Lindau is located near the meeting point of the Austrian, German and Swiss borders. A beautiful small town as there, where every stone in the walls is an attraction itself stands just East to the lake Constance so very frequented by the eager tourists. The place is ideal for a quick getaway with your beloved one, for a medieval summer fling where nothing and no one owns the right to disturb your excellence.

Rothenburg Ob Der Tauber

Another gem off the Bavarian lands localized over the Franconian region, Rothenburg lies on a plateau overlooking the Tauber River. Red is its color, a distinctive feature of all the roofs over the towns beautiful gothic houses preserved for ages. The town resembles that of every fairytale read to us as little children; it looks like someone got it out of a dream. Among other movies, there are sequences of the famous sci-fi movie Harry Potter shot in the area which needless to say make it sound even more mystique.

Swabian Alb

The Swabian Jura in Baden-Wurttenberg is a low mountain range of limestone, formed in the Jurassic era. The life is known to be really hard in these lands which accounts for tightfisted notorious reputation of the people, nevertheless their brave and big hearts, politeness and honesty are of no doubt. The civilization is ancient comprised of castles, monasteries, churches, ruins and old towns. The myth says the lands are seized by the Allemanic witches and well spirits scaring winter away, when the time is right.

Muenster

MĂĽnster, the independent city in North Rhine-Westphalia was once home to the Anabaptist rebellion of the Protestant reformation. The city is divided in 6 administrative districts, Mitte, Ost, Nord, West, Sud-Ost, Hiltrup similar to the world famous American Tv series Games of Thrones, mythical and ancient. Life is educated and modern, lead on the foundations of cities ancient architecture. The thing that characterizes this city is cycling which evidentially makes it famous all around the world. Bicycle lanes and paths connect all the districts inside the city.

Culinary Travel: Potato and Beer Soup

With October (think Oktoberfest) just around the corner and this week all about travel in and around Germany, what could be better for our Culinary piece than Potato and Beer Soup? Potatoes and beer, two German favorites, create a perfect pair in this traditional soup, which is quick and easy to make. Serve with our German Caramelized Onion Pretzel Rolls with caraway seeds for a hearty lunch or dinner.
Ingredients

    4 cups chicken stock
3 large russet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch cubes (about 4 cups)
    1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
    8 ounces sliced smoked bacon
    2 carrots, 1/2-inch dice (about 1 cup)
Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper

3 stalks celery, 1/2-inch dice (about 1 cup)
    2 bay leaves
1 small bundle fresh thyme, tied together with kitchen twine
1 leek, green top trimmed, 1/2-inch dice (about 1 cup)
1 cup light German beer, such as Pilsner
    1/4 cup sliced fresh chives

Directions

Combine 2 cups of the chicken stock and one-third of the potatoes in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, and then reduce to a simmer until fork-tender, 15 to 18 minutes. Stir in the mustard to combine, and then blend to a smooth puree using an immersion or regular blender.

Meanwhile, cook the bacon in a large Dutch oven or stock pot over medium heat until crispy and most of the fat has been rendered, 12 to 15 minutes, and then transfer to a paper-towel-lined plate to drain. Pour out the bacon fat, reserving 3 tablespoons in the pot.

Turn the heat up to medium-high and add the carrots. Sprinkle with salt and pepper and cook for 3 minutes, and then add the remaining potatoes, celery, bay leaves, leeks and thyme and season with salt and pepper. Cook until the leeks are soft, 4 minutes, and then pour in the beer and bring to a boil until the beer has cooked down to about 2 tablespoons, 2 to 4 minutes. Pour in the remaining chicken stock and the reserved potato puree. Stir to combine and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce to a simmer and cook uncovered until the vegetables are just tender, 6 to 8 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

To serve, ladle the soup into bowls. Crumble the reserved bacon on top and garnish with the chives.

In May 2013, the company announced the launch of a new small-ship ocean cruising division, Viking Ocean Cruises, which began with the maiden season of Viking Star in spring of 2015, and features Baltic and Mediterranean itineraries. Culinary Travel: Oven Cooked Barbecue Ribs Recipe

This is one of the dishes that I make that keep my guests coming back home! These can be done with baby back or regular pork ribs. I have also made split chickens this way. The ribs are tender, moist and just slide off of the bone. I know that your family will love them just as much as my family does. I noticed that some are unable to find hickory smoked salt. You can use smoked paprika or just brush the ribs with liquid smoke before applying the rub. The smoke flavor is nice because it helps give the ribs a cooked-on-the-grill flavor.

Ingredients

4 pounds pork ribs
    3⁄4 cup light brown sugar
    1 teaspoon hickory smoke salt
    1 tablespoon paprika
    1 tablespoon garlic powder
1⁄2 teaspoon ground red pepper (optional)
2 cups of your favorite barbecue sauce (mine is Sweet Baby Ray)

Directions

Preheat oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit
Peel off tough membrane that covers the bony side of the ribs.
Mix together the sugar and spices to make the rub.
Apply rub to ribs on all sides.
Lay ribs on two layers of foil, shiny side out and meaty side down.
Lay two layers of foil on top of ribs and roll and crimp edges tightly, edges facing up to seal.
Place on baking sheet and bake for 2-2 1/2 hours or until meat is starting to shrink away from the ends of the bone.
Remove from oven.
Heat broiler.
Cut ribs into serving sized portions of 2 or 3 ribs.
Arrange on broiler pan, bony side up.
Brush on sauce.
Broil for 1 or 2 minutes until sauce is cooked on and bubbly.
Turn ribs over.
Repeat on other side.

A Sincere Thank You To Our Military and First Responders

September is not a special month, but it is as fitting as any. With Labor Day and the remembrance of 9/11 it certainly does fit in with a month to call attention to the time and many sacrifices that those serving in our military and those we call first responders deserve.

The members of and the families that support our military and our first responders need to know that they are deeply appreciate and that we honor their many sacrifices. In too many instances the ultimate sacrifice.

Our military serves us around the clock, both at home and abroad. These folks rise to the call of duty every time they wake and report for duty. Their work always puts their life on the lone.. Some even having their lives taken to save sometime else. I can't even imagine what goes through someone's mind when they are headed to a call but what I do know is they don't get enough credit. It seems credit is only given when they make the save, but that's not how it should be.

Do you remember that every day our men and women serving in the Navy, Marines, Army, Coast Guard, National Guard and Air Force our do a near thankless job to make sure we are both free and protected?

Do you think of the thousands of men and women that serve and protect us, our friends and families by doing the multitude of tasks that law enforcement, be it Federal, State or Local, are called upon to do every minute, ever hour and every day?

Please don’t think we are forgetting our other hard working and danger facing first responder of the fire department or paramedics. No, these men and women cannot be left off our list of those that need to singled out for honor and praise. Certainly not as an afterthought we pace in this part of our list the doctors and nurses that also work 24 / 7 to aid those of us who need help when we are at our most vulnerable.

When you are in trouble your first call is a first responder. Dispatchers, Firefighters, Police Officers, Paramedics and EMT’s are our heroes. When we call, they are there and their jobs are far from easy. They work long crazy hours around the clock and rush to scenes helping complete strangers without thinking twice.

15 Years This September 11th

While it may seem like yesterday it has been 15 years since events would change our lives, our country and the world forever. For many of us the events of 9/11 are seared into our memory. Our young children were left asking their parents if they were safe.

September 11th, 2016, will be the 15th anniversary of the attack by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda upon the United States in New York City, Washington, D.C. and in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Did you awake with a feeling that today was a memory that would be with you forever?

On that day, a Tuesday, nearly 3,000 victims perished as the result of terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and what was thought to be the White House by the plane that the heroic passengers fought to regain and was forcibly crashed by the highjackers. These events caused at least $10 billion in property and infrastructure damage.

Four passenger airliners were hijacked by 19 al-Qaeda terrorists so they could be flown into buildings in the cowardly attacks. Two of those planes, American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175, were crashed into the North and South towers, respectively, of the World Trade Center complex in New York City.

Within two hours, both towers collapsed with debris and the resulting fires causing partial or complete collapse of all other buildings in the WTC complex, as well as significant damage to ten other large surrounding structures.

A third plane, also American Airlines, Flight 77 was crashed into the Pentagon (the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense), leading to a partial collapse in its western side.

The fourth plane, United Airlines Flight 93, was targeted at Washington, D.C., but crashed into a field in Pennsylvania, after its passengers tried to valiantly overcome the hijackers.

The destruction of the Twin Towers and other properties caused serious damage to the economy of Lower Manhattan and had a significant effect on global markets, closing Wall Street until September 17 and the civilian airspace in the U.S. and Canada until September 13.

Many closings, evacuations, and cancellations followed the attack, either out of fear of further attacks or respect for the tragedy. Cleanup of the World Trade Center site was completed in May 2002, and the Pentagon was repaired within a year. Numerous memorials have been constructed, including the National September 11 Memorial & Museum in New York, the Pentagon Memorial, and the Flight 93 National Memorial in Pennsylvania.

The skyline of New York City and the collective consciousness of the world changed that day and the future was forever altered.

“One of the worst days in America’s history saw some of the bravest acts in Americans’ history. We’ll always honor the heroes of 9/11. And here at this hallowed place, we pledge that we will never forget their sacrifice.”  President George W. Bush

“Don't put off until tomorrow what you should do today.” Benjamin Franklin

Dubai Hotel To Build Rain Forest On Property

Architects in Dubai are designing the world's first hotel with its own rainforest. Set to open in 2018, the Rosemont Hotel and Residences will boast over 2 million square feet of hotel, residential, and leisure space, an artificial beach, and a glass-bottom pool suspended above the streets of Dubai.
The hotel, designed by ZAS Architects, will be accommodated by a 47-storey tower that neighbors a twin tower of the same height housing 280 residential properties. All entertainment facilities — including the 75,000-square-foot rainforest — will be located in the "podium" at the base of the two towers. "Technological features include an advanced sensory rain system that creates a 360-degree experience, simulating the sensation of being surrounded by rainfall without actually getting wet." Sensors control where the rain will fall depending on where people are detected.

As a city made famous by artificial islands and record-breaking architecture, Dubai will no doubt welcome the $550 million development project with open arms as it continues to redefine luxury.

Arriving at the hotel will be an experience in itself. These artist's renderings show guests being immediately greeted by dynamic 3D projections which will transform the drop-off point into a rainforest or a huge aquarium. Once the guests head into the main foyer, the plan is they will be greeted by robotic luggage handlers. Rosemont Hotel and Residences Dubai. Guests and residents can use the on-site bowling alley, trampoline park, or laser tag arena. The hotel will be operated by Hilton Worldwide under its Curio brand.

Sitting atop the five-story podium at the base of the two towers is the development's main attraction — a 75,000-square-foot jungle complete with waterfalls, streams, and a sensory rain system which mimics the rainforest climate. Also found in the man-made jungle is a "prehistoric Jurassic-inspired marsh," a splash pool, a sandless beach, and a rainforest cafĂ©.

If you get tired of exploring the rainforest, you can head to the 25th floor and go for a dip in the glass-bottom infinity pool, which offers panoramic views of the city's ever-changing skyline.  The bottom of the pool is also coated in starry lighting. Connected to the Skypool is an ultra-luxury spa and health club.

Celebrate Labor Day

Labor Day Holiday, the 1st Monday in September, is a creation from the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.

Labor Day Legislation History

Through the years the nation gave increasing emphasis to Labor Day. The first governmental recognition came through municipal ordinances passed during 1885 and 1886. From these, a movement developed to secure state legislation. The first state bill was introduced into the New York legislature, but the first to become law was passed by Oregon on February 21, 1887. During the year four more states — Colorado, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York — created the Labor Day holiday by legislative enactment. By the end of the decade Connecticut, Nebraska, and Pennsylvania had followed suit. By 1894, 23 other states had adopted the holiday in honor of workers, and on June 28 of that year, Congress passed an act making the first Monday in September of each year a legal holiday in the District of Columbia and the territories.

Yes, Louisiana is Open For Business

Tourist Business That Is!

The New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau continues to monitor the effects of the recent floods on Louisiana's tourism industry, as the waters recede and affected areas reopen to tourism.
According to the CVB, the city of New Orleans, the Louisiana gulf coast, and the central and northern regions of Louisiana as well as most of the geographic area of Louisiana were not affected by floodwaters. Flood-affected areas fell within in the corridors of major rivers, tributaries, and waterways in the regions around Baton Rouge and Lafayette southward. The small percentage of tourism attractions, overnight accommodation providers and restaurants impacted statewide have resumed or are quickly returning to normal operations.

Subsequently, major transportation arteries that were temporarily impacted by flooding have been reopened to connect major Louisiana destinations.

Tourism officials in Louisiana have issued a statement noting that the state remains open for business despite recent historic flooding.

The Louisiana Office of Tourism continues to monitor the effects of the recent floods on Louisiana’s tourism industry, a vital segment of the state’s economy and an $11.5 billion industry.

“As the weather subsides in our capital and southwest regions, we are confident that business will return to usual. We also want to highlight that a majority of the state has not been impacted by this disaster,” said Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser. “We look forward to welcoming our international visitors to the state, and we encourage each of you to come experience all that we have to offer from the music, history, culture and the best food in world – there is always something to see and do here in Louisiana.”

The city of New Orleans, the Louisiana gulf coast and the central and northern regions of Louisiana as well as most of the geographic area of Louisiana were not affected by flood waters. Flood-affected areas fell within in the corridors of major rivers, tributaries and waterways in the regions around Baton Rouge and Lafayette southward. Major transportation arteries that were temporarily impacted by flooding have been reopened.

“The New Orleans CVB and the entire New Orleans hospitality industry is working tirelessly to assess the needs of those negatively impacted and support them through an aggressive materials drive and delivery program. We are committed to help those damaged areas rebuild, just as we received help to rebuild after Hurricane Katrina. The time has come once again to lean in to do whatever can be done to help those in need,” said Stephen Perry, president and CEO, New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau.
