Paris has a timeless familiarity for first-time and frequent visitors, with instantly recognizable architectural icons, exquisite cuisine, chic boutiques and priceless artistic treasures.
Paris’ grandeur is inspiring but what some love most about the city is its intimacy. Its quarters are like a patchwork of villages, and while it’s one of the world’s major metropolises, there is a real sense of community at the local shops, markets and cafes. The following are some of the most iconic destinations to visit while you are in Paris.
Eiffel Tower
The Eiffel Tower is an iron lattice tower located on the Champ de Mars in Paris, France. It was named after the engineer Alexandre Gustave Eiffel, whose company designed and built the tower. Erected in 1889 as the entrance arch to the 1889 World's Fair, it was initially criticized by some of France's leading artists and intellectuals for its design, but has become both a global cultural icon of France and one of the most recognizable structures in the world. The tower has three levels for visitors, with restaurants on the first and second. The third level observatory's upper platform is 906 feet above the ground, the highest accessible to the public in the European Union. Tickets can be purchased to ascend by stairs or elevator to the first and second levels. The climb from ground level to the first level is over 300 steps, as is the walk from the first to the second level. Although there are stairs to the third and highest level, these are usually closed to the public and it is generally only accessible by lift.

Louvre
The Louvre or the Louvre Museum is one of the world's largest museums and a historic monument in Paris, France. A central landmark of the city, it is located on the Right Bank of the Seine . Nearly 35,000 objects from prehistory to the 21st century are exhibited over an area of 652,300 square feet.
The museum is housed in the Louvre Palace, originally built as a fortress in the late 12th century under Philip II. Remnants of the fortress are visible in the basement of the museum. The building was extended many times to form the present Louvre Palace. In 1682, Louis XIV chose the Palace of Versailles for his household, leaving the Louvre primarily as a place to display the royal collection.
The museum opened on 10 August 1793 with an exhibition of 537 paintings, the majority of the works being royal and confiscated church property. The collection has grown many times since then and includes, but is not limited to, paintings by Da Vinci, Raphael, Delacroix, and Van Gogh. As well as housing Roman, Greek and Egyptian statues. Many other Beautiful art and works is housed here at this amazing museum.
Notre Dame Cathedral
The cathedral is widely considered to be one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture, and it is among the largest and most well-known church buildings in the world. The naturalism of its sculptures and stained glass are in contrast with earlier Romanesque architecture.
As the cathedral of the Archdiocese of Paris, Notre-Dame is the parish that contains the cathedral, or official chair, of the archbishop of Paris. The cathedral treasury is notable for its reliquary which houses some of Catholicism's most important relics including the Crown of Thorns, a fragment of the True Cross, and one of the Holy Nails.
Notre Dame is a must see for its historic, artistic, and in general breathtaking splendor.
There is so much more to see and do, let us help you plan your visit to the most visited country in Europe and see its splendor first hand.

As our regular readers know we are doing three Special Holiday Trees this year. They are Mother’s Day, Memorial Day and Father's Day. Faster that it seemed possible Mother's Day is here are our little tree has sprouted pictures of loved ones Mothers. Please know that if you would like to add a picture you still have time as the Mother's Day Tree will be up for the rest of the month. Honor your mother on our tree.
Mother's Day is a modern celebration honoring one's own mother, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. It is celebrated on various days in many parts of the world, most commonly in the months of March or May. It complements similar celebrations honoring family members, such as Father's Day and Siblings Day.
The celebration of Mother's Day began in the United States in the early 20th century; it is not related to the many celebrations of mothers and motherhood that have occurred throughout the world over thousands of years, such as the Greek cult to Cybele, the Roman festival of Hilaria, or the Christian Mothering Sunday celebration (originally a celebration of the mother church, not motherhood). Despite this, in some countries Mother's Day has become synonymous with these older traditions.
Due to the campaign efforts of Anna Jarvis, several states officially recognized Mother's Day, the first in 1910 being West Virginia, Jarvis' home state. Jarvis' push to create an official holiday was met with opposition by some. Sen. Henry Moore Teller described the notion of Mother's Day as "absolutely absurd," and "trifling." In 1914 Woodrow Wilson signed the proclamation creating Mother’s Day, the second Sunday in May, as a national holiday to honor mothers.
Although Jarvis was successful in founding Mother's Day she soon became resentful of the commercialization and was angry that companies would profit from the holiday. By the early 1920s, Hallmark and other companies started selling Mother's Day cards. Jarvis became so embittered by what she saw as misinterpretation and exploitation that she protested and even tried to rescind Mother's Day. The holiday that she worked so hard for was supposed to be about sentiment, not about profit. Jarvis' intention for the holiday had been for people to appreciate and honor mothers by writing a personal letter, by hand, expressing love and gratitude, rather than buying gifts and pre-made cards. Jarvis organized boycotts and threatened lawsuits to try to stop the commercialization. She crashed a candymakers' convention in Philadelphia in 1923. Two years later she protested at a confab of the American War Mothers, which raised money by selling carnations, the flower associated with Mother's Day, and was arrested for disturbing the peace.

Though we are taking an in-depth look at France this month, the news invites curious travelers to look beyond the beauty of France to neighboring European countries. Sometimes we forget that the ocean isn't the only place to dive and snorkel, but many lakes offer a unique diving experience. Austria may have one of the most unique annual dive experiences available.
In Tragöß, Austria, the local Grüner See (Green Lake) doubles in size in the spring due to the snow melt from the nearby Hochschwab Mountains. The lake expands from about 450 feet to 750 feet. The crystal clear waters overtake the surrounding area, including the pastoral Green Lake Park.
Bridges, benches and even the still blooming Alpine flowers are engulfed by the water, turning this quaint little park into a diver’s wonderland.
The lake grows from roughly 3 feet deep to as much as 37 feet deep at the height of the runoff, usually around June, making it an ideal spot for divers. From mid-May to mid-July, divers come from all around to take the plunge, swimming along park trails with, if you can believe it, the local trout.
Divers who come to the lake must be pre-certified. There is absolutely no on-site certifications available. You can explore the watery park independently or join a guided group dive. Special classes such as underwater photography and underwater biology are also offered with advanced registration. Considering the snow-born source, divers should come prepared for cold water; the typical lake temperature ranges from 39° to 45° Fahrenheit.
For temperature comfort most of the divers find that a wetsuit is a must. They are made from foamed neoprene, warm and are very buoyant, helping divers stay afloat, and for this reason divers need to calculate the need for extra weight based on the thickness of their suit to achieve neutral buoyancy underwater. At the same time, the suit loses buoyancy and thermal protection as the bubbles in the neoprene are compressed at depth
As soon as midsummer sets in, the lake starts to recede. At that point, visitors can once again take to the trails in shoes, at least until spring returns and the lake once again takes ahold of the surrounding areas.

A visit to France wouldn't be complete without visiting Paris, but there are areas of the country that are often overlooked and well worth a special visit.
Lake Geneva
Lake Geneva is known as Lac Léman in France. This is a lake on the north side of the Alps, shared between Switzerland and France. It is one of the largest lakes in Western Europe and the largest on the course of the Rhone.
Lake Geneva is not all Swiss. Much of its southern shoreline is French. And while tourism has made some inroads, this lakeside stretch is unchartered tourist territory. The sweet spot is the villages of Nernier and Yvoire.
Nernier
This is a little shoreline village with cobbled streets, a pebble beach, and a quaint port. Visit the port where you can have lunch at Restaurant du Lac and set sail on the lake in an old-fashioned steamer.
With its bigger and more renowned neighboring village of Yvoire, Nernier shares the medieval village center and beautiful flower decoration during the summer season.
Restraunt du Lac
Located on the village port of Nernier Lakeside, this lake restaurant welcomes you with its shaded terrace and a breathtaking view of Lake Geneva.
From the floor to the patio through the large terrace, this charming setting will make you spend unforgettable moments as you dine on their delicious cuisine.
Their menu will awaken your taste buds with specialties from the lake and land, and seasonal products.
Yvoire
Located on the French shore of Lake Geneva, between Geneva and Evian, the village of Yvoire is nicknamed the “gem of the lake”. Yvoire is a magical place where authenticity and history are mixed. It is well known for its medieval buildings and beautiful flower decoration during the summer season. It is also one of the "most beautiful villages of France".
Built in the early 14th century and fortified by Amadeus V , this medieval bourg, ideally situated on the expanse separating the "little lake" from the "great lake", still possesses some of the essential elements of the fortifications of the 14th Century including the castle, doors, and ramparts.
Known as a modest fishing village in the beginning of the century, Yvoire is now ranked as one of the International Laureates of Floral Decorations. Don’t miss a visit to the Garden of Five Senses located In the heart of the village. Classified as a “Remarkable Garden” by the Ministry of Culture, this little piece of green heaven invites you to a poetic discovery of the plants with your five senses. In the fortified center, you will travel back to Middle-Age by discovering the gates and ramparts which used to protect the village and the castle from the modern era to discover a picturesque site which has been perfectly preserved. Finally enjoy one of the terraces, where you can sip a glass or have dinner in front of the spectacular landscape of Lake Geneva, Jura, Switzerland and the Alps.

We all know France is well known for its food and picking just one recipe out of the many delicious recipes can be quite overwhelming. Here is one recipe for a sweet and tasty treat that is sure to be enjoyed by all. Make one and get in the mood for your trip to France.
Ingredients
For the pastry:
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoon butter, cut into small pieces
2 tablespoon shortening
For the filling:
2 pounds firm pears, peeled, cored, and halved lengthwise
Juice of 1 lemon
1¼ cups sugar
6 tablespoon unsalted butter
Directions
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt, then rub butter and shortening into flour with your fingertips until it resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle 3 tbsp. ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time, into flour mixture, and knead until dough just holds together. Wrap dough in plastic and refrigerate.
Preheat oven to 425°. To fan pears, place core-side down on a cutting board. Starting from just below the stem, cut each one into 4 lengthwise slices, leaving stem end attached. Place in a bowl, gently toss with lemon juice and ¼ cup of the sugar, and set aside for 20 minutes.
Meanwhile, melt butter in a 9" ovenproof skillet over medium heat. Add remaining 1 cup sugar and cook, stirring constantly, until it turns golden brown and caramelized. Remove skillet from heat. Stir to cool, as the sugar will continue to darken even off the heat.
Drain pears and place in skillet with caramelized sugar round side down, with stems facing center. Gently fan slices out.
Roll out dough on a floured work surface into a 10" round about 1⁄4" thick. Place dough on top of pears, covering edge of skillet. Press edges down between pears and inside of skillet and cut four ¼" steam holes in center. Bake for 25 minutes or until pastry is golden brown.
Remove skillet from oven and tilt it carefully, using a baster to draw off excess juices. Transfer juices to a small saucepan and reduce over high heat until thick. Place a large, flat serving platter on top of the skillet and invert quickly and carefully. Spoon the reduced caramelized juices over the pears.
Serve warm or at room temperature.
Enjoy
