Off the Beaten Track: Hitachi Seaside Park, Japan

If your idea of a memorable travel destination involves tons of different flowers, visit Hitachi Seaside Park in Japan. Rolling hills are covered in a whole array of them that blossom during the different seasons.

Less than two hours from Tokyo, the Hitachi Seaside Park is a palette of colors, changing from one season to another, making it an all-year-round paradise.

Covering an area of 8 acres, the park features blooming flowers around the year. The park has become known for its baby blue-eyes flowers, with the blooming of 4.5 million of the translucent-petaled blue flowers in the spring drawing tourists. In addition to the annual "Nemophila Harmony", the park features a million daffodils, 170 varieties of tulips, and many other flowers. The park includes cycling trails and a small amusement park with a Ferris wheel.

Since it is gigantic, people rent bicycles or get on a train called the Seaside Train, which goes around the park. There is a road through the park that takes in the many gardens with different flowers.

A lake known as “West Lake” and a water stage stand close to the Nishiguchi ( west gate) of the park.

The park is a nice place to meet with friends: a BBQ space is even provided for that matter. But beware that this is not a park for free. The entrance costs about $4 per adult.

Filled with woods, gardens, a mini amusement area and cycling courses sprinkled throughout the park, Hitachi Seaside Park is a must-see for anyone venturing to Japan.
