Rawhide Travel's "Fall Foliage Super Cruise"

October 20th to November 04th, 2015

We bet this one is on your bucket list, if not, it will be! Besides experiencing Fall foliage at it's peak, here's the really really exciting itinerary. You will enjoy 15 days on Princess Cruise Lines traveling from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico. Fabulous food, sights, on board entertainment and adventures at every stop.

If you deposit before February 26th, we'll toss in some exciting "special treats" just for you! Your adventure starts in dazzling Quebec City, Canada! No expensive hotel needed because your first night will be spent on board the magnificent M/S Caribbean Princess, literally your floating hotel.

Better yet, your ship doesn't sail until 2:00pm the following day giving you even more time for awesome sights in beautiful Quebec City. Besides experiencing Fall foliage at it's peak, here's the really really exciting itinerary: Cruise the Gulf of Saint Lawrence (most extensive estuary on Earth), Halifax (Nova Scotia), Bar Harbor (Maine), Boston (Massachusetts), Newport (Rhode Island), New York City (New York), Charleston (South Carolina), Fort Lauderdale (Florida), and finally, cruising the Gulf of Mexico before the cruise ends in Houston (Texas).

And, you'll have plenty of sea days (five to be exact) for lots of relaxation. As if all of these fabulous sights and exciting thrills weren't enough, the price for this spectacular 15 day adventure includes everything but the kitchen sink including a Balcony Stateroom, round trip air from Phoenix (including all air taxes and fees), transfers in Quebec City and Houston, all port taxes, all government fees and taxes, all meals, nightly "Las Vegas" style shows.....even your ship tips and cancellation insurance! And, if you deposit before February 26, the price is only $4,299 per person (based on double occupancy) for everything, your deposit is reduced to only $700.00 per person Plus... we'll toss in $100 per person On Board Credit and one "specialty dinner" at either Sabatini's (Italian eatery) or The Crown Grill (steak house)!!

However, if you deposit after February 26, price goes up just a bit to $4,499 per person as does the deposit of $1,200 per person and unfortunately, no On Board Credit or specialty dinner can be offered. But, it's still a great deal. And, just in case your friends or family may want to travel with you, we have air available from 173 other cities around the U.S., but their price may vary depending on what their actual departure city is, other than Phoenix.

So what are you waiting for? Some people wait a lifetime for their ship to come in. You only have to wait until October 20. Now's your chance. If you're interested, give us a call today for more details, we suspect this grand adventure will fill fast. Eyes in the back of your head recommended for this unforgettable sailing adventure. In the News: Travel Insurance

With all the weather cancellations and delays plus the special events, we thought it might be a good time to talk about travel insurance.

Travel insurance includes five main types: trip cancellation and interruption, medical, evacuation, baggage, and flight insurance. Supplemental policies can be added to cover specific concerns, such as identity theft or political evacuation. The various types are generally sold in some combination, rather than buying only baggage, medical, or cancellation insurance, you’ll usually purchase a package that includes most or all of them. If you want just one type of coverage in particular, such as medical,  ask for that (though it might come with a little cancellation or baggage insurance, too). Comprehensive insurance covers all of the above (plus expenses incurred if your trip is delayed, if you miss your flight, or if your tour company changes your itinerary).

One of the better changes in recent years is that many companies, such as Travelex and Travel Guard, now offer comprehensive packages that serve as your primary coverage; they’ll take care of your expenses regardless of what other insurance you might have (for instance, if you have health insurance through your job). That means they pay first and don’t ask questions about your other insurance. This can be a real plus if you want to avoid out-of-pocket expenses.

Insurance prices can vary dramatically, with most packages costing between 5 and 12 percent of the total trip. Age is one of the biggest factors affecting the price: Rates go up dramatically for every decade over 50, while coverage is generally inexpensive or even free for children 17 and under.

Policies available vary by state, and not all insurance companies are licensed in every state. If you have to make a claim and encounter problems with a company that isn’t licensed in your state, you don’t have a case.

Note that some travel insurance, especially trip-cancellation coverage, is reimbursement-only: You’ll pay out-of-pocket for your expenses, then submit the paperwork to your insurer to recoup your money. With medical coverage, you may be able to arrange to have expensive hospital or doctor bills paid directly. Either way, if you have a problem, it’s wise to contact your insurance company immediately to ask them how to proceed.

Trip-Cancellation or Interruption Insurance
It’s expensive to cancel or interrupt any prepaid kind of travel, and for a fraction of the trip cost, you can alleviate the risk of losing money if something unforeseen gets in the way.

Medical Insurance
Before buying a special medical insurance policy for your trip, check with your medical insurer — you might already be covered by your existing health plan. While many US insurers cover you overseas, Medicare does not.

Evacuation insurance covers the cost of getting you to a place where you can receive appropriate medical treatment in the event of an emergency.

Baggage insurance for luggage that is lost, delayed, or damaged is included in most comprehensive policies, but it’s rare to buy it separately.

Off the Beaten Path: Murrells Inlet, SC

Murrells Inlet is a small fishing village in Georgetown County, South Carolina, United States that is considered to be the "Seafood Capital of South Carolina".

In the 1800s, visitors to Murrells Inlet traveled from Conway or Georgetown down the Intracoastal Waterway by steamboat . The steamboats became well known for the tasty meals they served on board. Several former steamboat cooks settled in Murrells Inlet and opened restaurants. Ever since, the area has attracted local restaurant owners and, of course, diners from near and far.

Georgetown is the largest city in Murrells Inlet's own county, but Myrtle Beach, across the Horry County line is just 16 miles to the north on US 17.

Marsh Walk
The Murrells Inlet Marsh Walk is a beautiful stretch of docks along the salt marshes on the south end of the Grand Strand. Nine exciting restaurants serve up some of the best food in town. Hit up the Marsh Walk for live music and a happening night life spot.

Myrtle Beach
Myrtle Beach is all in one a spring break destination, golfing destination, retirement community, and family vacation spot. Take in a foot-stomping show at the Carolina Opry, or cheer on your favorite knight at Medieval Times. Mingle with the fishermen of Springmaid Pier, then stop for ice cream along the boardwalk. Shop and dine at one of the area’s many outdoor entertainment complexes, or simply explore the many beaches of the Grand Strand each with a personality of their own.

In the News: O'Hare Regains Title of World's Busiest Airport

O'Hare International Airport is again the world's busiest airport for passenger and cargo traffic, a designation it lost a decade ago, according to data from the Federal Aviation Administration.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport wrested the top honor away from O'Hare in 2005 and had retained it since, according to the official flight count by the Federal Aviation Administration.

While 2014 traffic at O'Hare was down by 0.2 percent, it lost less traffic than the Atlanta airport, where traffic declined by 4.7 percent, according to new FAA data. O'Hare had 881,933 arrivals and departures; Atlanta had 868,359.

But the Atlanta airport is likely to retain the title of busiest airport for passenger traffic.

City officials have said international passenger volume have helped O'Hare totals. In the last 18 months, O'Hare and Midway airports added six new international airlines and dozens of destinations, according to the city.

O'Hare regains bragging rights to the title it had mostly owned since the dawn of the Jet Age, when it surpassed the number of flights at Midway Airport, which had been the leader.

O'Hare might be the busiest airport, but during some months it's also regularly among the worst for flights departing on time, according to data from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Off the Beaten Path: St. Helena Island, SC

With its abundant farms and shrimp docks, St. Helena Island, just 5 miles east of Beaufort, offers visitors a glimpse into rural Lowcountry life past and present. St. Helena is home to the Penn Center, one of the first schools for the children of freed slaves the location of a small rural cottage, where Martin Luther King, Jr. drafted his famous “I have a dream speech”.

Downtown Frogmore should be included on any visit to St. Helena Island. The colorful shops, art galleries and restaurants featuring authentic local dishes are not to be missed.

Much of the rural and agricultural land on St. Helena is still worked by native residents, many of whom are descended from slaves; and the shrimping and fishing industries on the island are major contributors not only to the local economy, but also to the fine dining enjoyed by locals and tourists alike

A quiet sea island in Beaufort County, St. Helena Island is perhaps best known for its historic connection to Gullah culture and language, still evident on the island today. The island is nestled between downtown Beaufort and the resort communities of Harbor Island and Fripp Island, so it enjoys the benefits of both rural and suburban life. The population of St. Helena (pronounced HEL-uh-nuh) hovers around 10,000. St. Helena is home to the Penn Center, a National Historic Landmark located on the site of one of the nation's first schools for freed slaves, which opened in 1862.

Penn Center
Tucked in the heart of the South Carolina Sea Islands surrounded by glimmering marshes and nestled beneath the silvery moss-draped limbs of massive live oaks, is Penn Center - the site of the former Penn School, one of the country's first schools for freed slaves. It is one of the most significant African American historical and cultural institutions in existence today.

Take the time a see Chapel of Ease. Beautiful old remains of a different time. Walk around and see the "footprints" of where the orginal Chapel sat. The old church was made from seashells.

Hunting Iisland State Park
Hunting Island is South Carolina’s single most popular state park attracting more than a million visitors a year, as well as a vast array of land and marine wildlife.  A picturesque Hunting Island Beach, palm trees and thousands of acres of marsh and maritime forest, a saltwater lagoon and ocean inlet are all part of the park’s natural allure that keep locals and vistors alike coming back all throughout the year. Climb the stairs to the top of the lighthouse and take in a breathtaking view of the Atlanic Ocean. Dolphins can often be seen frolicking right off shore and pelicans can be spotted dive bombing for their next meal. Hunting Island is not your typical beach. This natural beauty is a must see when visiting the area.

Frogmore Stew

What better way to warm up your family setting during this winter than with a warm, steamy, serving of Frogmore Stew. This combination of shrimp, smoked sausage, corn on the cob, and potatoes creates a hearty dish for the whole family to enjoy.

Frogmore Stew, also known as the Lowcountry Boil, originated in the 1960s on St. Helena Island, near Beaufort, South Carolina. In the 1980s, however, the postal service abolished the name Frogmore, because Frogmore is only one of several St. Helena Island communities, changing the name of the popular dish to Lowcountry Boil.

Ingredients
1 Stockpot
1 Can of beer
½ Fresh lemon
12 Small red potatoes
1 Bag of Old Bay Seafood Seasoning
12 Ears of corn (fresh or frozen)
2 lbs. Kielbasa sausage (cut into 2 – 3 inch pieces)
2 – 3 lbs. of Shrimp

Directions
Pour can of beer, fresh lemon, and bag of Old Bay Seafood seasoning into a stockpot with 5 quarts of water. Bring to a boil and add the small potatoes. Let boil for around 8 minutes. Then, add the ears of corn, and the Kielbasa sausage. Let that cook for approximately 3-4 minutes. Add the shrimp into the pot. As soon as the shrimp turns pink, drain the pot and dump the stew out onto the table covered in newspaper.

Best Skiing Destinations: Monarch Mountain, Colorado

People across the country and across the world know the names: Aspen, Vail, Breckenridge, etc. When people book their dream ski vacations, chances are they’re headed to Colorado’s big-name slopes. The recognition is good for our ego and our economy but it can also mean the slopes are packed and the lift lines long when we want to catch a powder day over winter break.

Monarch sits on the Continental Divide between Salida and Gunnison. With a 10,790-foot base elevation, the highest of any ski area in the country, it’s able to rely entirely on Mother Nature for snow. As with most things, natural is better, and because the ski area doesn’t draw huge crowds, the soft powder can stay untouched for days.

Monarch Mountain is what you expect from a real Colorado ski area. Abundant natural snow (350+ inches) and friendly people are two of our strongest attributes. You can walk from your car right to the lifts, prices are reasonable, and the runs flow naturally back to the base area. At Monarch you'll lose the crowds but not your friends.

You can thank President Franklin Delano Roosevelt for Monarch: The ski area opened in 1939 under FDR’s Works Progress Administration. Monarch was initially owned by Salida, but the town decided in 1955 that it had enough to do without running a ski area. It’s grown a lot under various private owners, and it recently doubled the size of the lodge. Plans are in the works to expand the ski area to the other side of the mountain, giving skiers and snowboarders the chance to alternate runs on both sides of the Continental Divide.

Monarch has great skiing for families, and there are a number of runs for the more advanced. Geno’s Meadow, named after a longtime ski instructor, is an off-the-beaten-path tree run that’s a favorite of locals.

Update: Rawhide Travel and Tours Holiday Tree

This month the little tree is all dressed up for New Years and Mardi Gras.

Mardi Gras is French for "Fat Tuesday", reflecting the practice of the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season.

While not observed nationally throughout the United States, a number of traditionally ethnic French cities and regions in the country have notable celebrations. Mardi Gras arrived in North America as a French Catholic tradition with the Le Moyne brothers, Pierre Le Moyne d'Iberville and Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville, in the late 17th century, when King Louis XIV sent the pair to defend France's claim on the territory of Louisiane, which included what are now the U.S. states of Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana.

This year we are planning something different for our tree.  We want to create three Honor Trees. One for Mother's Day, Memorial Day and Father's Day. We would like to have everyone send us a picture of the person they would like to honor along with the name of that person. Make sure that the picture you send is a copy because the pictures can not be returned. Send picture to : Rawhide Travel and Tours Inc, 6008 West Bell Rd # F105, Glendale, Arizona 85308-3793.

In the News: 5 Best and Inexpensive Countries to Visit

The world is getting smaller, but the chances of having an extraordinary new experience are only increasing. What about discovering somewhere new? Somewhere off the beaten path, a travel destination yet to be fully discovered, an underrated city, or an experience only few will ever tick off their bucket lists?

Portugal
Portugal may come as a surprise, but this European country is actually pretty inexpensive to
tour compared to the other travel destinations surrounding it. Lisbon serves as the ideal getaway if you’re looking to get the best of both worlds. Experience the fine Imperial Era architecture while being constantly soothed by the breeze from the Mediterranean. Relax on the white sand beaches of Porto and taste some of the finest wine the country has to offer. And there is no shortage for street food in Portugal; enjoy some of the most delicious street cuisines for under a buck and please your senses. And when you’re done experiencing the coast, travel inland by bike or a rental car, and experience Renaissance Era rural sides of Europe. Truly the options are unlimited when in Portugal.

Fiji
Now, before you disregard this place as an overpriced, overindulgent, honeymoon destination, you should know that the place has more free access regions than most such
islands. You can splurge in beaches, take active part in water sports and even get on hiking some of the most romantic hills without spending a buck. And you can actually afford accommodation for under $30 a night as well. Yes there are hotels that will get you bankrupt in a day, but if you can get friendly with locals upon arrivals you will find yourself enjoying paradise for almost nothing. And you can munch on some of the best seafood for the price of hamburgers and hotdogs in Fiji as well. So if you love waking up to the sun from the beach, and would love to keep your credit card away for the travel, Fiji is the right place for you.

Peru
The general idea surrounding tours to South America is that it’s expensive, but the truth is it
is not as expensive as one might think. In fact, a trip to a country like Peru will hardly cost you more than $40 a day. The land of Machu Picchu, Peru is a mystical country filled with mesmerizing hills, beautiful sceneries, and interesting archeological relics. Though a trip to the most popular tourist spots like, Machu Picchu will actually cost you more than the entire travel itself, there are plenty of other neglected tourist spots such as Moray and Choquequirao that are equally amazing and completely free. And as the locals are pretty friendly you will find much better guides in them than their English speaking counterparts. And the best part is, no matter where you go in the country, meals are no costlier than $5.

South Korea
Remember Gangnam style? Well, then you must be pretty acquainted with how fun the
South Korean people can be. Much different from the shrouded northern neighbors, South Koreans are quite friendly and fun loving. And the exchange rates in the country are pretty good and the prices are such that whether it is beer or groceries you can just afford anything for a buck. And the accommodation and meals are quite cheap as well, and the quality of stuff you get there is pretty good comparatively. The capital city Seoul has plenty of places to explore and have fun, and the nightlife, as you might have expected, is quite unique and fun. So if you want to splurge on a budget, South Korea is the place you want to be heading to.

Greece
The country’s recent financial folly is a true misfortune, but to travelers it is actually quite a
boon. With the exchange rates taking a nose dive, the best foods and even the most expensive accommodation might just fit into you budget now. Though a few outings like Santorin are still the exclusive playground of the rich and wealthy, the common tourist hangouts like Athens, Thessaloniki, and Olympus are now quite a bargain. Though currently the tourist scenario is overcrowded, if yo
u can head out to the local regions of country, you can both spend your holiday lavishly and enjoy the Mediterranean plains as well.

Best Skiing Destinations: Schweitzer Mountain, Idaho

Arguably the Northwest's most desirable ski resort due to its large size (2,900 skiable acres) and big snowfall (300 inches annually), Schweitzer never gets tracked out, thanks to its location, a two-hour drive from Spokane, Washington, the closest major airport. When big British Columbia storms blow through the southern tip of the Selkirks, locals head straight for the snow-ghosted glades that the mountain has built a reputation around. The best runs are JR Trees, a mellow cruise through well-spaced aspens, and Kohli's Big Timber, 1,000 vertical feet of 40-degree steeps through tight glades.

Nestled in a basin at the base of the foothills of the Selkirk Mountains overlooking Lake Pend Oreille, Schweitzer Mountain offers 2900 acres of lift accessible in-bounds terrain. Averaging an annual snowfall of 300 inches, Schweitzer’s 92 designated trails include two open bowls - Schweitzer Bowl and Outback Bowl. 10% of the terrain is beginner, 40% intermediate, 35% advanced and 15% is expert. Accommodating every level of skier and rider, Schweitzer also has an open gate policy for access to out-of-bounds terrain that spans over 200 additional miles of the Selkirk Mountains.  The limitless sidecountry and backcountry terrain spans across the Idaho panhandle, eastern Washington and southeastern British Columbia.

The village  offers top of the line technical  gear, lifestyle mountain apparel, accessories and all sorts of cool gifts. Whether you are looking for a perfect cut of steak or  fresh hot pizza, you'll find exactly what you are craving.

They have a child care center. The Children’s Center is a 2,500 square foot facility that is a fully licensed child care with or without ski lessons. All childcare staff are CPR and First Aid Certified to insure the safest environment for your little ones. We are committed to a low child-to-caregiver ratio that assures full attention to your child with non-stop activities, including arts, and crafts, music, games, and even on snow play time.  You can enjoy the slopes knowing your child is having as much fun as you.

Video games will finally get the kind of museum treatment typically awarded to other forms of visual art.

Texas will open a Texas-sized entertainment district.

And everyone's favorite, Hello Kitty, will finally take a stab at Mickey Mouse with her own lavish theme park.

Each of these multi-million dollar projects will have a major impact on local tourism, and every one of them is sure to make headlines in the coming months.

Hello Kitty Park in Zhejiang Province, China
Opening date: January, 2015

This joint venture between Japan's Sanrio Corporation and China's Zhejiang New Insight Leisure Tourism Development opened to Hello Kitty's adoring fans on New Year's Day.

The new attraction includes 11 themed facilities, such as performance venues, amusement rides, a luxury resort and even a grand mahjong hall.

It is the first Hello Kitty theme park outside of the cartoon's native Japan and is expected to attract up to one million visitors per year.

National Videogame Arcade, Nottingham
Opening date: March 2015

Billed as "the world's first cultural center for gaming," the forthcoming National Videogame Arcade will be a hub for video game culture, with public programs, educational outreach, archives, themed galleries and interactive exhibitions spread across a five-floor building in Nottingham's Creative Quarter.

The compound will house more than 12,000 objects, and aims to "inspire and develop the game-makers of tomorrow."

Grand Texas Sports & Entertainment District, New Caney, Texas
Opening date: Spring 2015

The first components of a massive new amusement zone 30 miles northeast of Houston, Texas -- including a motorsports park, sports complex and water park -- are expected to open to the public in the spring of 2015.

The 640-acre district will eventually house seven Texas-themed attractions in total, including a shopping and entertainment complex, a multi-use event center, concert venues, a wakeboarding lake, equestrian trails, a hospitality village and the Grand Texas Amusement Park.

The National Blues Museum, St. Louis, Missouri

Blues fans will have a good reason to smile next year when the National Blues Museum opens to the public in downtown St Louis.

Backed by everyone from blues legend Buddy Guy to actor John Goodman, the complex will contain 16,000 square feet of interactive exhibition space, a 100-seat theater and a robust calendar of public programming.

Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, Moscow
Opening date: June 2015

The Garage Museum of Contemporary Art will finally move into its first permanent home in 2015.

Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas helped transform a Soviet-era pavilion in Gorky Park into a 58,000-square-foot art compound that will display some of the best contemporary works from Russia and beyond.

Eternity Passage, Beijing
Opening date: Summer 2015

Eternity Passage claims it will be China's first hi-tech amusement park, weaving Chinese history with "technological fantasy" across two large zones (one indoor and the other open air).

The theme park is currently under construction just outside of the Chinese capital, on the route to the Great Wall, and will be part of Beijing Outlets World, a complex with outlet shopping, resort hotels and a conference center.

Grand Egyptian Museum, Cairo
Opening date: Fall 2015

Halfway between the Pyramids of Giza and the modern city of Cairo lies an $800 million compound that will soon be home to 100,000 ancient artifacts spanning more than 7,000 years of history.

The Grand Egyptian Museum will become the world's largest archeological institution when it opens in the fall, and includes a conference center, training center and several archeology workshops.

Its biggest draw card will no doubt be the display of more than 3,500 artifacts belonging to the famous King Tutankhamen.

National Gallery Singapore
Opening date: November 2015

The 689,000-square-foot National Gallery will be the largest visual arts venue in Southeast Asia when it opens in the heart of Singapore's Civic District next year with a collection of regional art spanning from the 19th century to present day.

The opening is timed to coincide with Singapore's Golden Jubilee, and marks a fresh attempt by the city-state to position itself as an international hub of the arts.

Funtasy Island, Riau Islands, Indonesia
Opening date: Late 2015

Developers are billing this $240 million, 740-acre amusement zone just off the coast of Singapore in Indonesia's Riau Islands as "the world's largest eco-theme park."

Eight key "eco-zones" under construction include a multi-sensory rainforest, land- and river-based safaris, snorkel and scuba zones, an interactive dolphin habitat and an aquarium where you can swim with whale sharks.

Louvre Abu Dhabi (U.A.E.)
Opening date: December 2015

The oil-rich emirate of Abu Dhabi paid an astounding $525 million just to be associated with the Louvre brand, along with another $747 million for art loans and managerial advice.

Add to the price tag the cost of the building, about $100 million, and you've got yourself one of the most expensive cultural institutions ever conceived.

Inside the domed structure, designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel, will be 65,000 square feet of permanent installations and 22,000 square feet more set aside for temporary exhibits.

Off the Beaten Path: Pine Mountain Gold Museum, Villa Rica, GA

Visit Georgia's only gold museum located on the site of an actual gold strike and West Georgia's only authentic 19th century gold stamp mill. The Pine Mountain Gold Museum at Stockmar Park tells the story of the Villa Rica mines through exhibits in the 4,800-square-foot museum and a 20-minute documentary in the 50-seat theater.

Pan for gold and gemstones, take a tour through the intact ruins of Pine Mountain's gold mines, see farm animals, and bring a picnic and walk along the 27-acre park's three miles of trails.

Experience gold mining techniques spanning over 100 years beginning in the 1820s through the early 1930s. Pine Mountain is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. They are here to help preserve the rich history of Villa Rica's gold mining industry for over a hundred years.

The Live Farm Animal Exhibit is made possible by the generosity of Douglas County Farm Bureau and the many donations from our visitors! They will win your heart!

The newest addition to the park is our C.P. Huntington train for the Pine Mountain Scenic Railroad. Kids of all ages will enjoy a scenic trek around the mountain on our Golden Nugget engine, touring some of the sites of the gold mining process from the 1800's and riding through some new exhibits.

Culinary Travel: Georgia

It is often said there are two Georgias: Atlanta and the rest of the state. While Atlanta offers bright lights and big-city action, the regions to the north and southeast are filled with farms, lush forests, sleepy hamlets, and larger towns boasting vibrant arts and cultural scenes. In either direction, there is no shortage of beautiful scenery from the mountains to the north to the rolling hills and rivers to the south.

Georgia is blessed with a climate that allows tremendous opportunities for farmers.  Virtually any crop or animal can be grown successfully somewhere within the state.  They are known for their sweet Georgia peaches, peanuts and delicious Vidalia Onions.

Georgia Peach Cobbler

(Note: this recipe uses three separate portions of sugar)

Ingredients
1 quart peaches, sliced
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup self-rising flour
1/2 cup sugar
3 tbsp oil
1/2 cup milk
1 cup sugar
1 cup hot water

Directions
Preheat oven to 375ยบ.

Arrange peaches in an 8x12-inch baking dish. Sprinkle with 1/2 cup sugar. Mix flour, 1/2 cup sugar, oil and milk in bowl. Pour over peaches. Sprinkle with 1 cup sugar. Pour hot water over all.

Bake for 1 hour or until light brown. Place dish on cookie sheet while baking as it may bubble over.

Serves 8.

Best Skiing Destinations: Red Mountain, British Columbia

Just north of the Washington border, this sleepy but massive resort (five peaks spread over 2,800 acres) keeps getting bigger and better. Last year it grew by almost 25 percent with the addition of Grey Mountain, which features 40-degree chutes with names like Helter Smelter. This year Red Mountain expanded into Mount Kirkup, full of wide-open tree runs. What hasn't changed? The vibe. Although there are a few more condos, there are never any lift lines and everybody still meets up at Rafters, the bar above the day lodge, to drink and listen to live music.

At Red Mountain, visitors can choose from 110 runs spread across three stellar mountains that feature everything from wide-open groomers to steep, powder-filled glades. With more than 2,682 skiable acres and 890 meters (2,919 feet) of vertical terrain serviced by 7 total lifts, there is a lot to explore at Red Mountain. The abundant snow, friendly staff and locals, and the short lift lines are just a few reasons why our guests fall in love. Red Mountain Resort is known for having a variety of challenging expert terrain and for being geared towards intermediate and expert level skiers and riders.

Voted Canada’s #1 Outdoor Town by Explore magazine, the Rossland area is a natural playground for adventure seekers from around the world. Our stunning alpine town also features all of the amenities you would expect: shopping, casual and fine dining, pubs, bars, fitness centre and more.

Rossland is located 5 miles north of the US/Canada border in the heart of the West Kootenay region of British Columbia. Rossland is a 2.5 hour drive from the Spokane, WA International Airport, or 3.5 hours drive from Kelowna, BC International Airport.
