Summer Holiday Destinations (that you might not think of)
It’s time to sort your summer holidays out! Are you tired of hearing about the same old destinations? Want to try somewhere different?
This summer why not come back from somewhere most have never thought about going to. Don’t go somewhere where your friends have already been, done that and bought the T-shirt.
Here are 5 up and coming European destinations that you may not have considered for your summer holiday.
Bucharest, Romania
Bucharest, the city where you can have a three course meal with wine for under a tenner and still bask in the hot sun whilst enjoying city life. Temperatures can rise to 86°F at the height of summer making it the perfect affordable summer getaway.
Enjoy a vibrant city with unique architecture, it was once known as ‘Paris of the East’ and it is no surprise. Bucharest is the dream holiday destination but at a small chunk of the price compared to more popular destinations.
Visit a typical Romanian restaurant such as Caru cu Bere, possibly the most beautiful restaurant in Bucharest, which has been serving the city since the 19th century.
Riga, Latvia
Spend time in the cobbled streets of the old town amongst the gothic architecture. Relax in a beer garden and watch some local live entertainment in the bars. Latvian beer brewery, Peter’s Brewhouse, in the old town sells a large selection of local beers including innovative beer cocktails such as a Peter’s Colada – Blond beer with pina colada!
If you get tired of the city life then escape to the beach which is just a short ride away. Jurmala is a popular beach resort for locals and is just 25 km away. For somewhere closer walk to Ķīpsala, the island on the left bank of the Daugava river.
Bergen, Norway
Bergen is the perfect destination for a weekend away for beautiful views and some of the world’s best fish dishes plus it’s less than two hours away by plane from the UK.
Take a cable car up Bergen’s mountains to experience spectacular scenery and panoramic views of the islands, mountains and fjords. Bergen was voted the world’s most unspoiled tourist destination by National Geographic.
Back on the ground, visit Bryggen in Bergen which is one of Norway’s main attractions. Bryggen is a vibrant part of Bergen with beautiful colorful buildings and lively fish markets which fill the air with delicious herbs, spices and fresh fish aromas. Feast on salmon, local caviar, calamari and even reindeer – it’s a great place to visit!
Bratislava, Slovakia
The charming old town is filled with beautiful architecture, quirky statues, street artists and al fresco dining at independent traditional cafes. Get lost in the narrow streets and enjoy a local beer and try some traditional dishes mainly consisting of pork, potatoes, dumplings and cheeses.
Take a hike up to 9th Century Bratislava Castle and you’ll be able to see amazing panoramic views of Bratislava.
Budva, Montenegro
Escape to the Adriatic and visit Budva, an Instagrammers dream with its picturesque views and glamorous lifestyle. Soak up the sun on one of Budva’s 35 beaches or admire the luxury yachts in the marina. Come night the island awakes and is often referred to as ‘Montenegrin Miami’ due to its vibrant nightlife. With its sparkling coastline, cobbled streets and idyllic views, it’s no wonder that this gem is a popular celebrity destination.
