Off the Beaten Path: Pine Mountain Gold Museum, Villa Rica, GA

Visit Georgia's only gold museum located on the site of an actual gold strike and West Georgia's only authentic 19th century gold stamp mill. The Pine Mountain Gold Museum at Stockmar Park tells the story of the Villa Rica mines through exhibits in the 4,800-square-foot museum and a 20-minute documentary in the 50-seat theater.

Pan for gold and gemstones, take a tour through the intact ruins of Pine Mountain's gold mines, see farm animals, and bring a picnic and walk along the 27-acre park's three miles of trails.

Experience gold mining techniques spanning over 100 years beginning in the 1820s through the early 1930s. Pine Mountain is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. They are here to help preserve the rich history of Villa Rica's gold mining industry for over a hundred years.

The Live Farm Animal Exhibit is made possible by the generosity of Douglas County Farm Bureau and the many donations from our visitors! They will win your heart!

The newest addition to the park is our C.P. Huntington train for the Pine Mountain Scenic Railroad. Kids of all ages will enjoy a scenic trek around the mountain on our Golden Nugget engine, touring some of the sites of the gold mining process from the 1800's and riding through some new exhibits.
