Best Skiing Destinations: Schweitzer Mountain, Idaho

Arguably the Northwest's most desirable ski resort due to its large size (2,900 skiable acres) and big snowfall (300 inches annually), Schweitzer never gets tracked out, thanks to its location, a two-hour drive from Spokane, Washington, the closest major airport. When big British Columbia storms blow through the southern tip of the Selkirks, locals head straight for the snow-ghosted glades that the mountain has built a reputation around. The best runs are JR Trees, a mellow cruise through well-spaced aspens, and Kohli's Big Timber, 1,000 vertical feet of 40-degree steeps through tight glades.

Nestled in a basin at the base of the foothills of the Selkirk Mountains overlooking Lake Pend Oreille, Schweitzer Mountain offers 2900 acres of lift accessible in-bounds terrain. Averaging an annual snowfall of 300 inches, Schweitzer’s 92 designated trails include two open bowls - Schweitzer Bowl and Outback Bowl. 10% of the terrain is beginner, 40% intermediate, 35% advanced and 15% is expert. Accommodating every level of skier and rider, Schweitzer also has an open gate policy for access to out-of-bounds terrain that spans over 200 additional miles of the Selkirk Mountains.  The limitless sidecountry and backcountry terrain spans across the Idaho panhandle, eastern Washington and southeastern British Columbia.

The village  offers top of the line technical  gear, lifestyle mountain apparel, accessories and all sorts of cool gifts. Whether you are looking for a perfect cut of steak or  fresh hot pizza, you'll find exactly what you are craving.

They have a child care center. The Children’s Center is a 2,500 square foot facility that is a fully licensed child care with or without ski lessons. All childcare staff are CPR and First Aid Certified to insure the safest environment for your little ones. We are committed to a low child-to-caregiver ratio that assures full attention to your child with non-stop activities, including arts, and crafts, music, games, and even on snow play time.  You can enjoy the slopes knowing your child is having as much fun as you.
